Locally- There is quite a mixture, from lovers of art by Andy Goldswirthy,   A three tier pulpit, Real ale brewer in a near by village and the last resting place of John Peel. Brantgate is ideally situated to explore Keswick and Lake Derwent Water, Ullswater, Grasmere (the home of Wordsworth), Ambleside and many other places in the Lake District.

Walking - Here in Mosedale, if you do not fancy driving, you can walk straight into the hills. Saddleback (Blencathra) and Skiddaw can be reached from here taking in the village of Mungrisdale along the way.

Swimming
- The river Caldew flows nearby where there are some very good pools to be found for those that like to go swimming on hot, lazy summer days

The border Country and Hadrian's Wall - We are also ideally situated for touring up to the Border Country where the Roman Emperor Hadrian built a wall to keep out the marauding Picts and Scots.   Much of this wall and the forts can be still seen today.  Also border castle and peel towers can be seen in this area.

Cycling - Cyclists / Mountain Bikers will find the roads much quieter and there are off road routes for the more adventurous.  We are also on one of the Lands End to John 0' Groats cycle route and a short hop from the C2C cycle route.

Wildlife - Our guests can be in bed and watch the sun come up and the sheep and lambs playing in the fields at certain times of the year.  The wildlife is plentiful, it is not uncommon to see a fox wander across the flank of the fell behind the house, birds of prey (buzzards, peregrine, kestrels being the most common) can often be seen flying above the fells. Badgers are often seen at dusk.

Geology - Carrock Fell is a haven for geologists. It is said that silver and gold have been found in these hills, also lead, copper, molybdenum to name but a few.  The area attracts lots of interest from students and teaching programs.

Outdoor Pursuits - Hand gliders and paragliders fly from the surrounding fells, and the area caters for outdoor sports - golf, horse riding, sailing, windsurfing, climbing, fishing etc.  Those looking for less energetic pastimes there are castles, stately homes, museums and art galleries, and for a relaxing evening there are cinemas and the renowned  'Theatre by the Lake'  in keswick
